Frank Stranahan died on June 23, 1928. Falling victim to the great depression he took this own life by tying an iron gate to his ankle and submerging himself into the lake. Ivy Stranahan, as well as her father, brother, and sister all died inside this house and many have seen apparitions throughout each room of the house. When taking a tour of the house I did not feel or see anything abnormal but after viewing the photos taken my camera the photo I took of the entrance to the attic had a strange haze to it. When examining the picture closely I can see very faintly the face of a woman inside the attic. There have been reports from Stranahan House employees of a hand on their back as they enter the attic; the hand they believe to be that of Ivy Stranahan making sure they do not fall.
The Stranahan House, as well as any house with so much history, definitely seems to have a liveliness to it. When walking through the house it does not just seem like an old and abandoned house, you can feel a certain presence. It almost feels as if the Stranahans never left. The items that once belonged to Ivy are the most prominent throughout the house and you get a sense that the house was more so a home to Ivy than to Frank. Although near the canal, a place of tragedy, you can feel an entirely different energy which might be that of Frank’s. The negative history of the house seems to over shadow the positive and this reveals that we have a stronger emotional reaction to the tragic stories of the house. By standing outside on the balcony and looking down upon the canal you can almost feel a dark cloud come over the area and the grief Ivy must have felt in losing Frank.
